K.SWAPNIKA ACCID ATTACK: THREE PERSONS ARRESTED.

[SWAPNIKA.jpg]
In a new turn in the case involving acid attack on two engineering girl students, police have shot dead the three accused boys, claiming the police party was attacked by them.

The main suspect Srinivas and accomplice Sanjay and Harikrishna were shot dead when they allegedly attacked the police party which went to recover a motor cycle used by them in the incident at Mavunoor on Friday night, district Superintendent of Police Sajjanar said.

The police action comes in the wake of a huge public outcry over the acid attack in which the faces of the two girls were disfigured and they were in a critical condition.

Two police officials were suspended yesterday for failing to act promptly on a complaint by the father of one of the girls who is battling for life after being subjected to acid attack by a jilted lover in Warangal district of Andhra Pradesh.

Yesterday, home Minister K Jana Reddy was gheraoed by angry activists of women organisations when he visited the private hospital where Swapnika, a final year B.Tech student and her friend are undergoing treatment.

Swapnika and Pranitha were injured when Srinivas threw acid while they were going home on a bike last Wednesday.
WARANGAL: After 48 hours of the acid attack on two KITS students, the district police produced before the media the prime accused Shakamuri Srinivasa Rao and his two associates here on Friday.

Superintendent of Police V. C. Sajjanar said the three were apprehended around 4 p.m. while hiding in the fields in Jakkaloddi village on the Khammam road. Besides Rao (25) of Balasamudram, Potharaju Hari Krishna (24) of Shivanagar and Bajjuri Sanjay (22) of Shambunipet, degree students of Masterji College, were arrested. The SP said the trio admitted to having committed the crime.

According to Rao, they stole a two-wheeler from the KITS College, belonging to Vamshi. Sanjay was driving the vehicle while Rao sat in the middle and Hari Krishna sat behind him.

Both threw acid on the girls, K. Swapnika and T. Praneetha.

The young men said they selected an isolated spot near Ramaram village, close to KITS. After the attack, they moved to the Advocates Colony. Later, Rao went to Hyderabad. “I returned today and we met in the field belonging to Hari Krishna to discuss financial dealings between us,” he said.

Mr. Sajjanar said that during interrogation, Rao confessed that he bore a grudge against Swapnika, as she refused to love him. He was angry when he learnt she was seeing another boy named Karthik.

Rao hatched a plan along with two classmates of his brother, Sivaprasad. He purchased sulphuric acid from Rekha Surgical Stores on Vijaya Talkies Road.

The three practised for a month at their homes targeting a pole with a water container so as not to miss the target. Rao’s motive was to disfigure Swapnika so that none would be close to her, according to SP. The accused would be produced in a court soon.

Tips for JMET Exam | JMET 2009

Tips and Strategies for JMET EXAM:

* Speed matters a lot. You have only 120 minutes in hand and 150 questions to attempt. Besides, you also need about 10 to 15 minutes for reviewing the answers at the end of the paper. Ideally, you should spend only 40 seconds on each question.

* English section is generally an easy one and has only average difficulty-level. They focus on grammar, synonyms, antonyms and analogies. The questions from the passage are direct too.
* Critical Reasoning section does have a few difficult and surprise questions but even if you skip them and manage well on average ones, you can still manage to secure a good enough score in this section. Data arrangement and linear arrangement are two very important topics that you should thoroughly practice in this section.
* Higher Mathematics and Geometry questions can be a bit tough while questions on Arithmetics and Number System are often easy or of medium level.
* Data interpretation section is quite easy and often requires good observation skills and comparison of values. Combination graphs, tables and sets are important topics that you should practice well for this section.
* Speed comes with practice. More you practice, more you will know about the type of questions that are generally asked. Hence, you can just skim through the instructions and save time.
* Trying your hand on variety of questions beforehand, will train your mind better for dealing with problem in hand. It will help you to recognize the pattern quickly and intuitively know what concepts and logic to apply for a particular question.
* Vocalizing sentences slows down your reading. Similarly, using calculators or pen and paper for calculations reduces your speed considerably. So, train yourself for doing mental calculations and read faster.
* If you are not sure about a question, leave it and attempt the next one. Once you have finished the paper, you can come back to it and attempt it by elimination method.
* Elimination method means ruling out the most improbable answers, thus narrowing down your choices. It will increase the probability of choosing the right answer. However, this method can only be applied to questions; you have a vague idea about.

David Patterson Returns Only to Say Goodbye

Back for the second week after a leave to have her baby, Amy Poehler signed off "Saturday Night Live" for good Saturday, giving a tearful farewell at the end of Weekend Update only to be obscured by a sort of tasteless gag involving blind New York Governor David Patterson.

Poehler put in an appearance in a skit with another woman who left the show Mya Rudolph, reprising their "Bronx Beat" early in the episode hosted by Hugh Laurie, the actor from "House" who had previously been a veteran British comedy star, who was in just about every sketch. In this one, Laurie played the new British butcher in the neighborhood whose accent they loved.

Things seemed pretty loose in the sketch; Poehler and Rudloph riffed off of one another, ad libbing enough that Laurie couldn't keep a straight face. Things got even more abstract in the next sketch -- a holiday family gathering where nobody got along, still none were allowed to leave the table, and before long they all harmonized on "Silent Night" for no particular reason.

Just as different were the two performances by Kanye West in which he largely sang instead of rapped -- in highly stylized performances done before a big video screen, it looked like something out of an arena or an awards show than the tiny studio at 30 Rock..

They got a lot of material out of the Blagojevich scandal as expected, starting with a senate banking committee appearance by the beleagured Illinois governor, in which the gag was largely the wig and the (bleeped) cussing.

The hair seemed the main complaint about Blagojevich in the Weekend Update material as well.

The best sketch may have been the one where one too many people rise up to give speeches at a wedding, one more strange than the next. It seemed more like a page from somebody's unfinished screenplay than a fully realized sketch, but its characterizations were all strong.

Fred Armisen's Patterson sketch was edgy -- how many times to they portray blind people? But his was so cross-eyed exaggerated as to appear a little mean. Adding that comedy touch they used portraying John McCain -- with the mixed-up politician walking back into the set and toward the camera when he wasn't supposed to -- only interrupted Poehler's goodbye.

"I did just want to take a moment to thank everybody. This is my last show. And it has been an amazing expericne to be here; to be able to do over 140 shows with my friends and family has been a dream come true," Poehler said, eyes welling up. "And from the bottom of my heart, I really..."

Then Armisen popped up. It killed the moment, but it gave her a laugh.

Poehler will devote full time now to the new sitcom from the makers of "The Office."

Texas Tech senior QB Harrell wins Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award

Texas Tech quarterback Graham Harrell of Ennis was named the recipient of the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award on Monday. The award is presented annually to the nation's top senior quarterback.

Harrell is the most prolific passer in Tech history and ranks second all-time in NCAA history with 15,429 career passing yards. He will accept the award Friday at the Tremont Grand Meeting & Banquet Facility in downtown Baltimore. He's the first Tech quarterback to win the award.

Candidates are judged upon character, citizenship, scholastic achievement, leadership qualities and athletic accomplishments. Last year's winner was then-Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan, who is now with the Atlanta Falcons. Other past winners include current NFL players Brady Quinn, Matt Leinart, Eli Manning, Carson Palmer, David Carr and Peyton Manning.

"I want to thank the Johnny Unitas Foundation for this incredible honor," Harrell said in a statement. "To be mentioned in the same breath with this true legend of football is very special for me, my family and my teammates. This award wouldn't be possible without the support of my family and everyone at Texas Tech. Hopefully this honor will shine some light on the great things our football program has achieved and how special it is to be a Red Raider."

Jennifer Servo story returns to TV

Six years after the brutal murder of a 22-year-old Montana reporter, her story continues to gain national attention as Dr. Phil puts her case back in the spotlight.

Jennifer Servo graduated from the University of Montana with a journalism degree.

She worked at KPAX-TV and other Missoula media outlets before moving to Abilene, Texas where someone murdered her in her apartment in 2002.

The producers of the CBS program "48 Hours" interviewed Servo's friends and family for the program last year.

This week, Dr. Phil flew Jennifer's mom and sister, Christa, to Hollywood.

They relate Jennifer's story with the murder of Little Rock Anchor Anne Pressly who someone killed on Oct. 20.

Both Jennifer and Anne's murders involved a missing purse and a key. They both died in their own homes: young, beautiful and on their way to the top.

While Pressly's accused killer is in jail, Servo's killer is still unknown.

You can watch the entire story about Jennifer Servo Saturday night at 8:00 p.m. on "48 Hours Mystery," here on Montana's News Station.

Dr. Phil will have Jennifer's story on his show Monday at 3:00 p.m. It includes a satellite interview with crime commentator Nancy Grace.
